Jeremy Talks About Sled Dogs

Jeremy Talks About Sled Dogs

Last month my sister-in-law, Rhea, contacted me and asked if Jeremy would be interested in giving a talk to a room full of second graders at the elementary school where she serves as master librarian.  The subject would be sled dogs.

His response?  “Does a one-legged duck swim in a circle?”

The students, who were all studying dog mushing and the Iditarod, had a lot of great questions for Jeremy about dog care, training, his 2007 Iditarod run and if he plans to race again.

A children’s picture book is referenced in the talk, “Akiak, A Tale From the Iditarod” by Robert J Blake.  You can listen to/see the book here.  The reading is only 10 minutes and definitely worth it.

At the beginning of Jeremy’s talk, we had a little trouble with the audio.  Rhea’s introduction is a little choppy and sometimes the classroom is hard to hear.  We had a microphone in front of Jeremy, however, so his audio is clear.  I was going to clip the last few seconds after we hung up but it was pretty funny, so we left it in.

Enjoy:
